So today I am taking the platform to toot my own horn… I ran THREE 11 minute miles this morning!!! Altogether I ran for 38 minutes, but I ran at the gym and not only was I pretty consistent in my mile times, but also in my lap times. They actually got progressively faster (or else the clock was messing with me.) I’m really proud of myself. I feel like I’ve won some prize or something. If you had asked me before I started this crazy project if I’d be able to run 3 miles, the answer would have been a definitive NO!! But here I am, well on my way to what I thought was my crazy goal of running for one hour, with my knees and other limbs still intact. That signifies a good day!

I’ve gotten bits and pieces on your progress from a few of you. It seems people are trying to get back on the wagon, slowly but surely. Don’t be afraid to restart. It’s all about the process. ANd let me in on your secrets!!

Happy Fitness Sunday!

Yes, yes, I’m late, I know. Forgive me, Jane. I’ve been uncivilized.

But anyway, because my legs are aching like an arthritic grandmother, I figured this week’s exercise of the week should be… ~drumroll, please~

STRETCHING!!

I know it’s not an exercise per se however it is in an integral part of fitness health. Many of us spend hours and hours running, jogging, swimming, lifting weights, dancing in hoola skirts, doing whatever it is that we do, and yet, we skip the most important part.

Stretching helps alleviate some of the tension you’ve introduced into your muscles by making it do work. When you’re doing high impact stuff or weights you are tearing down your muscles. By stretching, you are getting rid of some of that inflammation which will help get rid of some of that dead man walk we often have after a tough workout.

So give stretching a try. I like the stretches at BodyBuilding.com because you can choose by body part, etc.

Happy Fitness Wednesday!

So I’ve been distracted, I admit. I’ve been wandering around this lovely, lovely city called Chicago eating tapas and indian food and anything that tastes good, sweating and running and having a grand ol time, and somehow it COMPLETLY slipped my mind that it’s almost JUNE!!

Which of course means, it’s time for the June Calendar. Thank you to Kyana and her wonderfully delivered reminder.

Random Fact of the Week

Add a little whey protein to your diet!

Supplements are often controversial little topics, but one you might want to think about is whey protein. Not only is it said to aide in building lean muscle and lessen muscle soreness after a workout, it may also lower your blood pressure. So add 20-20 grams of powder to your postworkout shake.

My favorite: Wild Oats "Show Me the Whey - Vanilla"
